19 is the new 20

Postby onyirtodd » Wed Aug 12, 2009 11:22 am

There's a sign hanging from the fag display in my local T*sco announcing 19 is the new 20.

Anybody know what that's about? Google is no help.

TIA

Maybe they're putting 19 ciggies in a pack of 20 - charging the same price and trying to fool the people that it's a good idea wi a catchy wee slogan?

I suppose anyone daft enough to smoke in the first place might fall for that.

I started when i was 17, was on about 20 - 30 a day, then i managed to stop for 9 months - no reason, just stopped, then started again, and back on 20-30 a day, but in the last year or so i had cut down to 10 a day

Not sure I can help with this one though I do know someone who works in Tesco.
Difficult to get hold of them as they are always out and about.
If I do catch up with them I will ask.

Only mention I can see relating to these numbers is that customers buying dental insurance before
19/08/09 get a free £20 gift card.

Maybe they've dropped the age restriction for buying ciggies, from 20 to 19?

That was a stab in the dark, coz I have no clue how old you have to be purchase cigarettes in Scotland...

When I first came to this corner of Germany, I was having a fag while waiting to pick up a girlfriend outside of the Swimming pool where she worked.
A French guy spoke to me in German and I shook my head, "Don't speak the language pal". He then said in English,
"Maybe you have a cigarette for me?" so I gave him one and offered a light. He took a big puff and said," The cigarettes are so expensive here in Germany. I won't buy them here."
I promptly removed the ciggy from his mouth and threw it to the ground, crushing it out. " You shouldn't say things like that to a Scotsman, you fuckin' dickhead!"
He looked surprised; to say the least.

There was a cigarette smoker on the news the other day being asked about Spice - one of the 'legal/ herbal highs'. When told it contained chemicals he announced he's stick to tobacco because he didn't want dangerous chemicals in his body. Dickhead!
