What's the thing you dread loosing most.

Postby cashmagiro » Fri Feb 15, 2008 9:00 pm

Went to the petrol station and put twenty pounds worth in this morning.
Sauntered off whistling into the cash desk only to dicover I'd no wallet 8O
I was sure I'd brought it into the car with me as I always carry my wallet
along with my mobile.

I quickly searched the car. Mobile phone safely in my pocket, but no wallet.
Went back into the kiosk and explained my predicament to the girls behind the counter
and they were ok about it, just asked me how long it would take to go back home and
search for it and return with money.
I offered my mobile as a sort of g'tee and they accepted.

I drove back home praying I hadn't droped the wallet on the road when I first went into the car.

Got back home but no wallet at the gate.
Went inside to look and there it was on the shelf in the kitchen...phew, was I relieved.

Back out to the car and drove off only to suddenly realize that I was so relieved I hadn't lost the wallet
that I'd turned around and walked back out the door without lifting the silly thing.... I'd left the house
without it.
Quick u-turn back to the house and made sure I picked up the wallet this time.

What a fool :?

Anyway, although I hadn't actually lost the wallet it soon dawned on me that it's one of the things I'd
dread loosing most.

What precious item would you guys dread loosing most?

How come you got it to stop at exactly £20?
What's your secret, magic or what?

Last spring I was still living in Sunny Southsea, 2 weeks in a row I lost my wallett in the same part of the town in almost identical circumstances. (Out of my back pocket while riding a bike along the prom)

On the 3rd week I was back at the same spot and only just managed not to lose the 3rd one...... seems it takes quite a lot to condition my behaviour as a result of experience these days.

So it seems that the think I dread losing most is my bleeding marbles !

Yes, I have a great fear of losing my wallet too. I had the experience once before and it sure causes a lot of problems. And, oh yes, losing the "marbles" is also a thought that visits me sometimes.

I was going to reply...it was actually £20.01p but I couldn't be bothered typing the 01p so I made it £20.00

But nah, I'll tell you how to do it;
at least it's how I do it.
When you get to the... in this case £19.90p mark
just give the trigger a few light taps until
you reach the round zero = £20.00.

If yer trigger happy it won't work :)

This brought back horrid memories of 2006 when on holiday in Spain. Being a complete and utter banker I carried my "manbag" , complete with; my passport, driving licence, french ID card, European health card , credit cards, cheque book, cash etc etc ( you name it - it was in there) to the local market and surprise surprise , three shakes of a castanet later, no manbag. Go to the police and get the report form. Frightening, terrifying feeling of not being an identifiable person- no id papers, nothing. Phone the British consulate in Malaga ( 4 hours drive ) and explain- no problem Sir, just come with two pieces of identity and we'll get you home! No identity I explain. Oh yes, well come anyway. Get to consulate ,having set off at 7 am- arrive 12.15 ( I know I said 4 hours but have you ever driven through an unknown Malaga???) Barriers inside the consulate building. "Papers please" "Eh........no papers, that's why I'm here" .Wait long time, photo taken, smile nicely. " Get into the consulate office which is just one door away at 12.45. Explain reason for gracing them with my presence.
"You'll have to come back tomorrow - we close at half past one"
Slight explosion ( I'm normally quite shy )- but obviously big enough for the Malaga Consulate - means I fill in a form and hand over. Two minutes, I tell no lies, two minutes later , she is back with a copy of the passport issued to me at the embassy in Paris a couple of years earlier.
"Hey great," I say, you can replace my passport.
"No" I can give you an emergency paper for one journey.
" But I am going back to Scotland then home to France "
"Choose"
"What?"
"Your journey- one journey "
Airline Ticket home being to Scotland I chose that.
Get back to Glasgow, phone for appointment at passport office.....................and it goes on !! Three days later, countless changes to plane tickets etc...
And the advice is - ???????????????????????????

Dread losing most in life- well I suppose my life, or my beloved or something deep like that.

In day to day life, I dread losing my keys- because I lose them roughly 45 times a day on average. There's nothing like that sinking feeling when I realise I've DONE IT AGAIN!! :|
