Sony TC-KE400S Cassette Deck. Perfect working order. Very light use so heads will be in good condition.

Sorry but this pre-dates USB by a wide margin.

There's a way round it with gadgets like that. There'll be a left and right phono output so you need a phone-to-3.5mm lead which then plugs into your PC.

Next you need software like this http://www.goldwave.com/mqrelease.php which can record the output from the tape deck. It will probably store that as WAV but it's easy enough to convert it to MP3. There's a plugin that needs downloaded but I can't remember what it's called just at the mo.

thanks Brigit ive already tried using the phono leads but the quality is too poor as its only meant for a mike.
ive got a couple of usb turntables that i use quite a bit (usually to put my mates old records onto mp3 or me thinking im Tiesto) and ive always used Audacity as its got great noise removal/effects etc on it for those 1960's scratches

Last time I was playing with this sort of thing, I noticed there was a tickbox in the Windows XP microphone setting that altered the signal boost. Some PCs have several input and output sockets. If there's three across the back, one may well be a line-in. It's an awful lot of messing about, I must admit. I had to use XP last time because I couldn't find the appropriate setup in either Vista or Win 7. It seems to have been removed or disabled. I think there was an advert in the Independent on Sunday for some specialsed gear to record MP3 from cassettes. If I come across it, I'll post it up. I think it was rather expensive though.

It's a while since I've dubbed audio into a PC using a line in but most PCs had them.

Audio
Pink Analog microphone audio input (mono or stereo). 3.5 mm TRS

Light blue Analog line level audio input. 3.5 mm TRS

Lime green Analog line level audio output for the main stereo signal (front speakers or headphones). 3.5 mm TRS
Black Analog line level audio output for the surround speakers (rear speakers). 3.5 mm TRS
Step by step here

http://www.polderbits.com/HowToConnect.htm

With old lap tops it was usually a MIC input beside the headphone out and you had to go into the system to switch it to line in for audio transfer.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.
