Noooooooooooooo. This is terrible news. I was obsessed with Factory records in my youth and still regularly listen to some of the bands. FAC213 will do for me.

Ah bugger, that's not so good  Factory Records played a big part in my teenage years (and beyond)

RIP Tony

He was so much more than Factory. He produced and presented TV and Radio Shows which itroduced and recorded local talent.

The Pin Ups crew booked him to DJ at a Factory tribute night at the Arches and of he course he didn't play one Factory Record. A riot ensued which spilled out into Midland street. Despite and probably because of that the guys were recently asking for contributions to buy him drugs that his local trust had refused to fund.

A true gentleman (when he felt like it) and wasn't scared to be different. OMD "ELECTRICITY" FAC 6 May 1979 was amazing for it's time. NEW ORDER "Ceremony" Fac 33 January 1981 changed music forever. Dreams never end Anthony - Tell Ian I was asking for him...

As a statement of intent, and as a summation of Tony Wilson, you can't really beat FAC02 - the double ep, four band, first ever release on his label.

The ability to spot raw talent - Joy Division, Durutti Column
Sheer 'what the hell were you thinking of' allegedly humourous tosh - John Dowie
The ability to capture a perfect moment of genius - Cabaret Voltaire (a recording they never really surpassed)

At least he did not die before meeting Mark E. Smith or hearing Joy Division. Many lives have came and went without these delights.
