The guy admitted full responsibility which is nice as my car was parked at the time. I didnt see it happen but full credit to the driver he left details and contacted his manager right away so all seems to be going in the right direction.

As they have admitted fault their insurers will be paying for repairs.

It will be going for repair in a couple of months assuming I can source parts, these things aint exactly common  .

Im more upset that one wing will be all shiny and new as I really like the patena in the old paint.

1. Can they not just panel beat it back flat?

2. demand a full paint job on their insurance...you know you want to...

1. That wont beat back unfortunately. The panel is creased so the metal is stretched out of shape. Besides, why should I have to make do with a fixed wing when I had a perfectly good original one before the bin lorry hit it?

2. I think I will paint the rest myself while its getting done. Sadly an insurance engineer wont class age as damage caused by the accident.

Unfortunate as it might seem as it's a Classic the council will not recognise this and write it off....
Hope i am wrong but you might need to claim your own insurance and then claim it back...
Had more or less the same problem with a MKIII Cortina ....road sweeper clipped the back quarter and the councils assessor wrote it off as salvage....
Till it was pointed out it was on classic insurance then it was a hum n a haw....

Feckers
If cheese gets mouldy you throw it out...
Why buy it mouldy in the first place ?

I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. I always watch where I park when it's coming up to bin day, as the spaces they manage to squeeze bin lorries through make me cringe.

I usually watch out on bin day but it wasnt bin day. According to the drivers boss they were sent to uplift rubbish from a house and after they hit my car found out the rubbish had been collected last week

Thankfully they dont have a choice in the matter. Unless the cost of repair exceeds the agreed value they have to pay for repair. Even then they can only give me full value of the car and I will get it back as salvage and fix it myself.

Sorry to see what happened BTJ. Worthwhile trying to get a sympathetic bodyshop that will do the full shebang at the same time. I knew a guy with a Capri in a similar predicament many years ago. His car went to the bodyshop with a nasty dent on the side and came back looking great ALL over :D

The manager of the bodyshop its going to is a really good mate so while the dent is getting fixed Im going up to put as many hours in as possible in the hope the whole car will get a layer of new paint.
