Volcanic Tongue's in Argyle Street, up near the Yorkhill end. Small but well worth the visit if you're into free finnish folk, new weird americana or japanese underground.

Volcanic Tongue is a bit of a place, it makes Monorail look like Woolworths !. Borders at "The Fort" had a nice eclectic sale on at "The Fort" a couple of weeks back. I got some lovely stuff :D

Keep it coming Krakow ;)

There are plenty on here from all walks of life.

Maybe you could put an advert in the window promoting Hidden Glasgow to all those customers and people passing the shop.

You could also give Dex a run for being the best music reviewer.

Get the photos up for all to see.

They claim they will be running it as a seperate brand from their main stores...hope so as some of the prices in HMV are a bit high! Missing the cheap CDs and Dvds........at those prices, who needs to download them!

more here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6923511.stm

HMV has bought the shops - which will trade under the Fopp name - in Glasgow, Edinburgh, London's Covent Garden, Manchester, Nottingham and Cambridge.

There is some suggestion that they will retain Fopp staff and current catalogue in these stores and run them as a more 'specialist' format for people who like the music buying experience, but using HMVs buying power for more popular DVD / CD. the name will stay at any rate.

Given the original Fopp directors except Gordon left some time ago and were replaced by former HMV staff one is beginning to see the possibility of a plot.

But will the staff want to return after the way they were treated? I'd at least want to see my wages for that final month before the shutdown if it were me.

But if you havern't found a new job, you might take the job and then look for something else? Any money is better than no money?

Indeed. I'm sure that there's a whole spectrum of feelings amongst the ex-Fopp employees, both those who may be offered their jobs back and those elsewhere.
I admit that the money would probably be enough to motivate me to accept if in those shoes. I'm thankful that I'm not in that position though.

The HMV takeover is a not unexpected development to the story (since the Fopp brand and name are/were too strong for me to believe that it would die completely) but it will be very interesting to see how things progress.

Does anyone know which store in Glasgow will be reopened? Is it going to be the Byres Road branch or the Union Street branch?

Personally I hope it's the Byres Road branch. With Mono and Avalanche in or around the city centre might I suggest the West End needs a Fopp branch more.
