Ach, Hollowhorn, you'll have to explain all that funny wee nose-punchin' to me: what's it got to do with "Touché, Dexter!"?

Actually the Bear is the fastest propeller plane ever build.

It's also much better than the RAF Nimrod which performs a similar role.

No shortage of nasty comments about the Soviet Tupelov Bear, but how did it compare with the British "Brabazon", the gigantic plane that flew over Glasgow round about the same time as the "Bear" first flew?

Actually the Brabazon was already retired from service (only one was ever built) when the first Bear flew. They were really different generations of aircraft.

The Brabazon was a little bigger than the Bear and much slower and lighter, in fact the Bear had a top speed twice as fast as the Brabazon.

In terms of size (and to an extent design) a better match for the Brabazon would be the Antonov 22. It was closer in size to the Brabazon than the Bear, although again was built much later in the 1960's.

At the time it entered service it was the largest aircraft in the world and is still in service today as a military cargo.
