banjo,
I have been watching that one too and some of the scenery is lovely.
Believe it was actually filmed in Gozo and Malta.

Christmas music videos on That's TV Scotland. Turning the sound off when a crap one comes on - a cover of "Christmas Wrapping" (originally by The Waitresses) performed by a duo called The Peaches for example...

No, me neither...

The 1959 movie version of "The Hound of the Baskervilles", with Peter Cushing as Sherlock Holmes, Andre Morell as Dr. Watson, and Christopher Lee as Sir Henry Baskerville.

I've got that recorded. Gonna watch it all once I've got New Year out of the way.

Christmas TV was universally shite, as usual, so I ended up watching the DVDs of The Phil Silvers Show that I treated myself to. :)
Classic stuff! Knocks spots off the vast majority of modern sitcoms.

Some episodes of 'The Office'.
Must say I always preferred Steve Carell to Ricky Gervais.

Haven't checked to see what is on later today and maybe see who is on with Jools Holland.

Like Dan (John Bishop) said in the episode, it's a Groundhog Day style time loop.

It started the moment the Doctor threw the switch to start rebooting the TARDIS.

That's what attracted the Daleks, looking for revenge for the destruction of their fleet in the previous story.

Each iteration of the time loop was shorter by one minute as the Daleks learned from their mistakes.
(Incidentally, there was a nice wee nod and wink for the hardcore fans when the first Dalek said "I am not Nick!". The guy who voices the Daleks is called Nick Briggs.)

The second to last iteration was a feint by the Doctor and co to fool the Daleks into believing they were going to do one thing, when in fact they were going to do another - which led to the good guys escaping, all the explosives/fireworks going off, and destroying the building with all the Daleks still in it.

Simple enough for you?

No problem my friend. :)

I'm now watching eps. 3-4 of the BBC's new adaptation of Around the World in 80 Days.

Being brutally honest, it's a bit pish. There's no sense of urgency from the characters, no sense of the ticking clock, and - as usual - the writers feel compelled to add their own (unwanted and unneeded IMO) touches to the story.

It's the same issue that I've had with the recent adaptations of The War of the Worlds, Dracula, and A Christmas Carol - they stray too far from the source material, and as a result you get maybe 50% story and 50% padding to justify the episode length.

The saddest thing of it is, every bad adaptation spoils the chances of a good, faithful one, for nearly twenty years.
