Stoopid Neds :(

Postby lynnski » Fri Mar 09, 2007 1:35 pm

On Wednesday night I got a late bus home, around 12:20, from the City Centre. A couple of drunk Celtic fans got on, around 4, and were talking very loudly, and singing. A few minutes into the journey, one was saying how he was wanting to go for more beer at some pub, 'but the black b*st*rd on the door wouldny let me in'. On hearing this several people swiveled round in their seats to look at him, me included. He said it again, and the chap opposite me said, 'Oi! I'm a Celtic fan too, but that language is out of order'. I stood up, said, 'Me too, and that is plain wrong. Would you call Bobo Balde or Didier Agathe black b*st*rds? There is no place for racism at Celtic Park'. Other people were joining in and the guy starting the 'I'm sorry, I'm drunk, I'm no a racist' excuses. I got off 2 stops later, the fans were talking quietly amongst themselves now, looking a bit sheepish. The chap who'd stood up 1st shook my hand and said thanks for joining in. I said thanks for being brave enough to be the 1st person to say anything. I wouldn't have if nobody else had because I was scared to.

Now, PLEASE do not turn this into a football discussion! Yes, I am a Celtic fan, but these chaps could have been fans of any team and it wouldn't have mattered. It's just an example of the typical behaviour you get on these late night buses.

5 minutes ago I got a text from my Uncle telling me my 15 year old cousin and 2 wee mates had been jumped by a gang of at least 8 lads, much older than them, kicked and punched, robbed of their mobiles at knifepoint. Poor chaps are understandably shook up, Police are sending someone round from Victim Support. The Police caught the gang about an hour later causing mayhem on a bus.

Like I said, Stoooooooooooopid neds : (

Well done at standing up to the drunk on the bus, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing", too often now a days people would have sat by and said nothing.

I'm sorry about you're cousin, I'm glad the police caught them, since they get away way too often so they think it's ok to do it again, although they'll probably be back on the streets causing problems in no time (not a dig at the police, I have the utmost respect for them).

Na, it's cool, I know what you mean. I wouldn't be a Polis for love nor money. But somebody's gotta do it.

I quite fancy the job (I'm currently considering joining the specials), but I don't think I could be a beat cop, if the neds didn't kill me the politicians/bureaucrats would.

Football
A game where supposedly grown men get paid a fortune to run around a field in shorts, spitting, swearing and trying to kick a bit of animal skin between two posts, while people pay to watch. A game that people drag politics, race and religion into and are prepared to maim and kill over.

I'm sick of this towns obsession with a bloody game. Yesterday evening I walked along the front of Ibrox and was made squeeze by the temporary fening and the side of a bus... this bus contained the players and they appeared to have more rights to the pavement than me. The bus also nearly hit me from behind as it took off after I passed it. The same bus that was given a full police rolling road block escort to the stadium. What a waste of resources. I know they pay the police a fee, but that is rediculous

This is precisely why I objected so strongly to this sites' ban on an entire sport. Sweeping generalisations and gross exaggerations that are downright offensive to thousands upon thousands of decent folk.

Seem to me, all the tubthumping rhetoric and linking of football to religious issues on this site comes from those who don't like the sport. How ironic.

Actually, its more that we really don't need to hear the endless converstaions relating to the old firm whether its the bigots or the antis... there is enough of that everywhere you turn.

That and I tend to think that football really epitomises the infantalisation of society

My son has to deal with these people on a daily basis.
In my opinion, he doesn't get paid enough to deal with the abuse, verbal or otherwise. Say what you like about the police, my son is one of the good guys.

The two statements are not incompatible.

I have a hell of a lot of respect for your son which is strange for my age group (I'm 22), they should get paid a hell of a lot more and the politicians should back off and let them do their job rather than forcing them to meet targets etc.
At the moment I'd rather a low paid job with the police force than a high paid mind numbing job elsewhere, I quite fancy being a LEO, but I don't have the patience to be a beat cop :?
