Finally got round to getting a tree surgeon to give me a quote and hope that chestnut tree will get a bit
of a haircut in near future.

I loathe this ongoing 80s revival thing. The 80s were chaos, Thatcherism, violent racism, casual homophobia, and Stock, Aitken and Waterman. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

(NB The Cure, Sonic Youth and everything else good stands apart from that generally lousy decade, cos they were alright. It is, it's true.)
All the world seems in tune on a Spring afternoon, when we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

Personally I loathe the ongoing attempt to portray the 80s as the worst decade ever and "the decade that style forgot". Both accolades go unequivocally to the 1970s, the decade of brown, of kipper ties, the 3 day week and the Yorkshire Ripper.
There is no opinion, however absurd, which men will not readily embrace as soon as they can be brought to the conviction that it is generally adopted.

I have to go with Sir Roger here, insofar as the 70s were, for the part of the decade I recall, unremittingly grim.

The seventies were overshadowed by the sixties but sexual liberation finally arrived in Glasgow,, the pubs opened later, serious clubbing re started and live music got a boot up the arse. Taking drugs was mostly about smoking dope and people were still good looking. Public transport was at its zenith TV was in colour and high quality. Some seriously good movies in real cinemas along with real drink in real pubs.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

When I'm fed up hitting my heid again against a brick wa' I do that too, they hate ye writing to them because they have to reply and also the paper trail (possibly in your favour) it creates.

I once took on NTL (do they still exist?) with letters! the result being they didn't reply ( recorded delivery)
I telephoned them  to ask about the letters answer was.. and I kid you not

NTL are now Virgin Media, I understand and I have a cruise missile with their co-ordinates programmed in.

I've just googled NTL letters and it seems they really didn't answer letters.
