I think there are degrees of shy as well, and people have different mechanisms for getting over them. For example;

1. First time you're in an Ann Summers / Sex Shop style establishment (normally when your about 15 and buying your first real girlfriend saucy undies for valentines day.)

2. Meeting a lassie in a pub or restaurant for the first time without the interference or support of her friends or yours. This tends to get easier as you get older.

3. Meeting a bunch of strangers who enjoy rooting around in tunnels and old buildings.

etc.

If im in a group of people i dont know id say yes, but if i know the group im with id say no.

I used to be really bad, couldnt do speaches or talks, but i worked as a market researcher in 1999, and that helped me wonders.

Most people are shy to some extent - i suppose some people are just better at swallowing it if you like and just getting on with it.

Personally im hopeless, im almost on the 'blush if i see an ankle' level when im around new folk one-to-one, but strangely i have no problem getting up in front of a group of people and presenting something though.
Malcolm Tucker is always right.
