I'm sure I sat and listened to Kevin Keegan saying the other night that England were better than Germany.

Not on this evidence!!

He has a history of making stupid statements that man ::):

We don't. We invented the game (allegedly) and that gives our media the right to suggest we have a right to win the competition.

I notice from the fixtures that we will have Winner Group D v Runner-up Group C on 27th June, 2 weeks this afternoon.

That just has to be Germany v England. Sorry all you Downundrians, but there will need to be a German victory tonight if England are to have their ritual humiliation...

Yup.

I doubt it. That fat unfunny fecker will be around until the media get fed up with him and find the next young up and coming 'comedian'.

On a serious note (only for a moment though :)), how can FIFA continue to ignore the calls for video technology after that decision???

There have been too many games at the top level over the last couple of seasons where bad decisions/performances by the referee/linesmen have affected the results of games.

England were cuffed this afternoon and many people will say that it wouldn't have mattered if the Lampard 'goal' had been given. Football (sport in general for that matter) doesn't work that way though; that goal would have put England level and they would have been on top and the Germans may have started panicking - the end result could have been completely different.

Sepp Blatter and anyone else at FIFA who doesn't agree with video technology should walk and let others with a more progressive outlook take their place.

Possibly, but we will certainly have to put up with '66 again in '14. :(

The game would have changed at that point as it would have restarted from the circle centre. Somewhere in a parallel universe...

...England are smarting from a 6-2 defeat. :P

Not Germany, for sure. If they can't beat a pub team 18-0...

Let's see how Argentina do tonight.

There have been too many games at the top level over the last couple of seasons where bad decisions/performances by the referee/linesmen have affected the results of games.

This is absolutely ridiculous - the World Cup is becoming a farce!!!

Tevez offside by about two yards for 'goal' but ref and linesman don't see it; linesman then notices his mistake on big screen but ref can't change the decision even though the game hasn't restarted.

FIFA are making a mockery of the game at its most prestigious tournament. I'm slightly surprised that the Mexicans didn't just walk off the pitch in protest - if it wasn't so serious it would be funny. Why are FIFA so opposed to using modern technology for the big decisions in games - penalty decisions, offside calls, contentious bookings/sending-offs, etc? IIRC their statement earlier this year referred to fans enjoying talking about such incidents. Are they saying that having these talking points is more important than arriving at the right decision?? If so, someone ought to remind them that football is a sport first and an entertainment by a distant second.

Loads of players, managers and pundits said that when (not if, cos everyone knew it would happen at least once) incidents such as these occurred at the World Cup it would make FIFA look stupid for steadfastly refusing to introduce video technology. How right they were!
