Monkey magic

Is anyone else slightly excited about the remake of the Japanese cult series Monkey?

I was always a bit confused about the ladyboy Tripitaka though.

Osiris, I watched the original series when first screened
on TV here. Not really a fan of remakes. Always liked
Monkey's magic cloud, could really do with one of them :)

I remember when it was originally screened, 1981 I think? I preffered 'Tales from the Watermargin' at the time though. Quality!

I think the original Monkey is being rerun on ITV3 on Fridays at 6pm.

Relive your Monkey memories on ITV4 tonight, 18:00.

They've just started a re-run, which was handy for me, as I missed the opening episodes that established the characters first time round.

Re-makes?

Look at the film industry to see what a mistake they are, especially when they 'update' the original. Many of the originals they re-hash only achieved their popularity becuase of the quirkiness of their period settings and production methods used as the time.

The Water Margin is now well underway there too, Saturdays, 18:00.

When I was a wee boy I got a doing off my ma for sawing her brush head off and making a black with silver tips Monkey stick. The silver paint was the airfix stuff used for sniffing and painting models of Boeing Stratocruisers.

After Monkey ended tonight, I thought I'd stick Tripitaka's name into a search.

'He' was played by an actress, and there's plenty of on-line pics of her calendars from th etime. Unfortunately, it turns out to be a sad story, as Masako Natsume died of leukaemia on 11 September 1985, aged 27, just over 6 years after finishing work on Monkey.

Sems there was a myth that the illness ended the series, and that she lost her hair while playing the part. Tribute sites say the illness came years after the series ended, and the priest's bald head was achieved by make-up.

Just back from the pub Apollo, that's a very sad story about Tripitaka, the
actress that played the part :( I know we all pass way, but passing away
at 27 that's very cruel :(
