"We got a hamper as a present and included in it was this
whole chicken in a tin. We didn't use it and packed it away
and kept it."

After close examination of the dimensions of the
can, I wonder how they managed to fit a"whole chicken"?

Maybe this was just the pre steroid days.

Slightly off topic, but my Granny used to buy all the tins which had lost their labels. It was great fun after going shopping with her to find out what you'd got. I don't think you're allowed to do that anymore.

It's against the law to sell anything without a date.

In Swindon, two up for it members of the New College Student's Union agreed to sit in a paddling pool and eat DOG FOOD whilst fellow students paid to cover them in BAKED BEANS, FLOUR and CORNFLAKES in the college Refectory for the whole of the lunch break....

I remember Woolworths used to sell whole chickens in tins. That was in the late 70's, don't think i've seen them since.

Dates are often stamped on the tin itself... Still illegal to sell though, as the ingredients are not. :)

Yeah, Glasgowken, that takes me back. Always remembered
something about Woolies selling food, other than sweets.

Given Glasgow's cheese obsession, here's a new one.

Deep fried cheese curds. Yip, get that packet of Brie out the
fridge and immerse in hot lard :x
