Don't look if you're a girl...

Found this lovely specimen when cleaning out my cupboard:

Wish I'd put some kind of scale beside it. The body was just under 1 inch across and the legspan 2 inches.

It was a very weird looking spider. It looked like just the exoskeleton, as if it had shed it's skin but spiders don't do that.

Any spider experts on here ?

thats tiny

I came across a HUGE one in the shed the other day, in fact there was a gaggle of em.

This one that surprised me was about the size of a 50p, huge body.

Spiders arent scary, they are helpful little dudes.

Wouldn't mind seeing a photo if they're still there. I've heard garden spiders can grow ridiculously big especially if there's a good supply of food.

The biggest species in the UK is the Fen Raft Spider:

Nice.

We get huge ones in France, especially if its wet and they creep inside for shelter. Had a few big ones in my room, (out of fear of one crawling in my mouth when asleep) I had to kill them with the fire poker, give em bug spray and they just get stronger... 8O Wasps as well. And hundreds of these black millipede things that climb up the wall whenever it rains for long enough.
Living in a forest just makes it worse... Interesting the spider there seems to like water :?

Spiders rule, 'mon the spiders 8)

Ever seen a spider who's legs stuck out from under a pint tumbler whilst trying to capture it?

I have 8O

That one was a monster! Sadly I had to take this one out with a .22 pistol for it's own safety.

I recall seeing a spider on a building site once who was an illegal immigrant.

It was big grey and very woolly and came from somewhere (warm and wet) abroad inside the cardboard tube which formed the centre of a roll of vinyl.

All the guys on the building site nominated each other to deal with it.

Sadly Harry as we came to know and love him as, was killed later in the day by a delivery van after venturing outside to torment the local Dennistoun cats.

I have thrown out a few of these big chaps in the last month or so
I guess the return to wooden floors makes them more visible.
A change of door policy at Chez Cumbo perhaps!

I went to open my back door and this scorpion-like black thing stood on it's hind legs and looked at me ( I kid you not). After battering f**k out of it with a brush and lobbing it in the wheelie, I googled to find out WTF it was. Turned out to be a Devils Coach horse Beetle. I wasn't scared of it after reading about it's merits...................too late RIP
