Acording to RAJAR in Glasgow

It's Real Radio, Clyde 1, Clyde 2 , Radio 2, Radio 1, Radio Scotland , Radio 4,

Beat 106 and Saga.

Personally I listen to the specialist shows and SOTS on radio 2, peterson on Radio 1, Tom Morton and the Arts Cafe on Radio Scotland, The Soul and Rock'n'roll shows on Saga and the soul shows on radiomagnetic.com and Mary Fox on BBC radio stoke and Kev Roberts on Solar radio.

Yes, wasn't aware Real had climbed above Clyde, I thought real was still lower although it's audience is higher due to the fact it has a bigger ptential audience.

I like Radio 1 and 2 for general listening, if I am in the car Q96 is the best for travel as it's detailed and accurate unlike Clyde where I have been driving normally through 'solid' traffic!

I got sick of Clyde a while back, as did a few it seems, audience has nearly halfed since 99. Real radio bores me too- too mainstream, too anonymous, and is too promoted- apparently it's got the biggest advertising budget £1 for every potential listener! The Tesco of the radio world.

I tried real radio but decided it was an insult to human intelligence, I mean, it seems like a contest to see how many times they can cram the word "real" into every sentence 8O

mind numbing stuff.

as for saga? reminds me of the barras and the "briggit" in the 70's -same "music"

radio scotland ya bass

I can't stand local commercial radio, especially Clyde - the local ads annoy the piss out of me, and the choice of music is the blandest, most commercial shite around - take some risks, people, for Christ's sake!

That's before we get to the annoying DJs, who seem to think it's hilarious simply to say stuff in a local accent...

Nah, much as I hate Chris Moyles, give me ad and sponsorship-free Radio 1 anyday!

Real radio must have one of the shortest playlists of any radio station. They play it over the tannoy at Work and it is the same records played over and over. Worse still is the inane football phone in, bunch of morons bleating about why their teams aren't winning everything and all of the time

Too true. I thought for a while their library consisted of just a few "Now that's what..." type compilations and the half-dozen recent promo cds they had received sonce they opened. Apparently they've increased their play list, which I suspect just means that one of their staff has bought an Ipod.

RAJAR

Postby Dexter St. Clair » Mon Sep 19, 2005 10:38 pm

Rajar do break down by city so CLyde (1 and 2 combined) can claim a bigger listenership in Glasgow. In reality Clyde 1 and Real are neck and neck. Real Radio rules Edinburgh.

I'll keep the Rajar mag next time it comes in.

Here's the last quarter

Got to add my support to gap74's comments about Radiio Clyde and commercial radio. I can't think of a radio station I have detested for the reasons given almost since the day it came on air.

Ever wished it was possible to turn your ears off like you can shut your eyes?

Purgatory for me is working somewhere the owner of the communal radio has blank staring eyes, and the radio is super-glued on Clyde.

You can't even get away from it by going down south either. Driving along the A69 from the M74 to Newcastle, conditions are such that Radio Clyde will come blaring through on 102.5 if your radio is on and is set to seek, as there's few others for it to find in that deserted area.

Proper local radio stations (as opposed to media superwhores like Clyde) are governed by a charter which states what genre of music gets played when and what level of talk and local issues are required.
There is some leeway at evenings and weekends when specialist music gets an airing.
(I saw the charter hanging on the wall at Your Radio in Dumbarton)
