I started a new job back in April, and for the most part it's great. First job I've had in about 25 years that I can do sitting on my arse. :)

There's no hassle from Team Leads - they're doing the exact same job as you.
There's no quibbles about time off.
You're okay to take an extra couple of minutes on your breaks as long as you don't boot the arse out of it.
Team Leads and Managers are all nice people (for a change), very approachable if you've a problem.

Basically, I'm sitting collating batches of old paperwork. Get rid of staples, paperclips, taping up minor tears - that kind of stuff.

But the thing that pisses me off is the state of some of the older papers. I sometimes wonder if mice have been at them.
Another sunrise with my sad captains, with who I choose to lose my mind,
And if it's all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.

Well done on your new job Spleen.
It is good when you have nice people to work with and makes it easier to get through your day.

Cheers, Dot, much appreciated.
I've always thought that - you can hate your job and hate your gaffer, but if you're working with a good squad of folk, and you're able to have a wee bit of friendly banter, then the days just fly in.

Do you have any Covid measures in workplace Spleen?

We have some measures in place but some things are now more relaxed than before.
At the moment there are people at home, some doing hybrid and some in work like me.

At the moment, just the usual hand washing, cleaning your work area at the end of the day, and if you test positive for COVID do *not* come to work.

What is it with people that they are so gross?

I have been working temporarily in another building as some work was being done to the other place.
So this week I encountered the ladies toilets and of three toilets not one was flushed.
I get that sometimes toilets can get blocked or sometimes there are problems with a handle etc but seriously?

Then in the kitchen there was milk dated Sept and October clearly gone off but still sitting in fridge.
Now I know some people are maybe working hybrid or others still at home but really is it that hard to throw something out?
I washed the plastic bottles with washing up liquid and put them in recycling.

If we all leave it to others to do certain tasks would anything ever get done?
That's my rant over and wonder what others think.

Office Christmas parties.

I spend eight hours a day in the company of my colleagues, and much as I like them (for the most part) and get along with them (ditto), I really don't want to spend another three to four hours in their company when there's alcohol involved.

Yes Spleen I have never been totally at ease at Office Christmas parties and think it may be partly because quite often there seemed to be various cliques.

I get along with most people I work with too but maybe I'm just out of my comfort zone.

Hopefully, fingers crossed, it'll clash with the Christmas meal the guys in my Star Trek club in Glasgow are organising.

Nice meal, one or two drinkies, friendly banter, then up the road to the Cineworld for a film.

Well Spleen that sounds like a good day out - drinks, food, a bit of a catch up and then a film.

December 7th I am off to Towcester Races for a team meal for my part time job as a football coach, it’s ALL FREE. But need a wedge for the dogs, my main work team meal is on November 23, it is nice that we have some normality, wouldn’t have admitted it but really missed the interaction - you do make memories and this will be our last team Xmas meal as we are being split in Split

I don't mind going out for a pint or two with a couple of the guys on a Friday after work every once in a while.

It's just the enforced jolliness of the Christmas do that bothers me.

Ahh Spleen don’t forget “For Every Action, there is an Equal and Opposite Reaction”
When your old and crinkly either go out and join in and have a good time or don’t go out and have a good time, my view is go out and make a few memories, have a good time with the people you care for………..whilst you are able too!
That’s my pennies worth!
