My grandmother still had two-pin sockets in the 21st Century.

Not really .. :D You can buy unswitched sockets brand new today.

The price will depend on whether or not the cabling needs replaced (and if the cable is run in conduit or not .. if it isn't it's going to mean a load more work to replace it).

If it's not been looked at since the seventies it's a cert that the consumer unit and protection and stuff will all need replacing too.

Impossible to say definitively without a looksee.

Skip Hire

Postby InkMan » Fri Mar 09, 2012 12:02 pm

Hey folks,

I'm looking for skip hire to get shot of some items at my work. As I work for a registered charity I am looking for the cheapest price possible but we would need a receipt. If we can agree a time and date then it may be a hire for two or three hours as I will fill the skip myself.

So far the cheapest price quoted has been £95.

Thanks as always

Have you tried leaning on a friendly local councillor? They could maybe get the bulk uplift team from LES to pitch in - and sell it as a photo opportunity to the local paper. There's an election coming up you know
I hear the people sing.

There was a thread about hire of a van but if it has to be a skip then maybe no use to you.
Think it was in Random Distractions under title like 'Looking for ..'
One of the HG members had a friend with a van who would remove furniture etc at a reasonable rate.

Not sure if this is the right thread maybe more of a "Dear Mr Fix-it"

Black mould and wet stains appeared on the ceiling and wall below the bathroom a few months ago and to cut a long story the landlords ( I rent privately) "handyman" investigated under the bathroom sink and found that the pipe had not been jointed - at all! resulting in a slow leak that has been going on for approx 10 years -since the property was built.

What's freaking me out is that the Hall wall is saturated on the outside so what the hell is the extent of dampness and mould going on in the inside? Also, there is an electric storage heater on that wall plus a security gate buzzer.
When said handyman removed the wall underneath the sink the brickwork was totally saturated, crumbling and covered in black mould.
I googled and now I'm panicking as both myself and son have been having all year round nasal congestion etc.
Should the landlord remove the wall and get rid of the black mould?
Should I get Environmental Health to check out the type of mould?

Cheers :(
