Beards: Good Thing or Bad Thing?

Postby DMcNay » Thu Dec 30, 2004 8:23 am

Beards. Some of us have them, some of us have had them. But it's time to gather opinions.

What do we think? Do they make you distinguished and wise? Or are beards only worn by (in the words of Richard Herring) "Monkeys and C*nts"?

You decide!

Here's a few examples to help you on your way:

Is it just the male 'beard' that is under scrutiny?

I'm going to have to take issue with that one. Some beards take a hell of a lot of effort.

Take a look at US footballing legend Alexei Lalas up there. The full ginger pointy goatee going on there. That takes some amount of sculpting.

Then you've got the guy with the curly grey beard. You think that's caused by laziness? Oh no sirree bob, that takes time, effort, grooming and no small amount of hairspray.

And you have a cheek calling anyone lazy when you can't even be bothered typing the word "people". It's only an extra three letters......

Shite. And you know it. And I'm going to grow a beard deliberatly in protest. And you will all be desperate to run your fingers through my lush facial garden, and you won't be able to. Because Nuttytigger has spoiled it for you. I'm sure I was going somewhere with this. Can;t remember where now...

beards.. you either love or hate them.
I don’t really like the full beard myself opting for a tash/triangle facial hair combo…..

Dr I think you would enhance you good looks by having a full beard. As this would hide the double chin’s you have….

Nutty its not being lazy really. I will ask this question to you and other girls on HG,
Is it lazy for ladies not to shave their arm pits and legs everyday?

Been there, done that. I suit the goatee (or to give it its proper name, the Van Dyke) much better.

When I was on the sick I didn't shave. A luxury of being off work for a month! Eventually I bowed to pressure and shaved it off... But I kept the moustach bit! MAN!!! Did I look liek some sorta serial killing sex case from the 1970s off of America's Most Wanted?

The answer is "YES!"

And obviously when I was getting rid of that I tried the old Hitler job. But only in the privacy of the bathroom.

Beards aren't bad. Moustaches are better.

A new option. Which I may try in 2005.

The muttonchop sideburns. As sported by Graeme Garden, of Goodies fame and father of the keyboard player from the Scissor Sisters.

Image

Admit it, this is the look you all want! (Although he somehow looks like Kevin Eldon in that picture...)

In fact, I might even merge it with a moustache to give me the look of a Victorian Explorer! Indeed sir, that would be most splendid!

Everyone's going to be copying this look in six months time, you mark my words...

random fact for you: explorer extraordinaire Richard Burton was expelled from Oxford after challenging another student to a duel, after he'd made fun of Burton's moustache.
