Another great performer whose died twenty five years ago was the unconquerable Divine. This is someone whose talent was never really appreciated so I have three quick songs:

Walk Like a Man - This Top of the Pops video caused so much shit and not because he looks a bit how like the actress Ann Mitchell appears now. The title of the song is quite apporpriate follwing surgeries I've had recently:

Compare that to this performance from about the same year; live from Austrailan TV in a show broadcast in the mid afernoon
You Think You're a Man

I'm So Beautiful:

As everyone, their mum and the dog is banging on about twenty fifth anniversaries I may as well point out that it is also that same time since this was released:

A great trivia question is what show led to songs at positions two and three in late 1988. Of course it can only be Neighbours:

Kylie and Jason - Especially for You

Angry Anderson's Suddenly - check out his tattoos which was the first large scale quality ink I had ever seen. Must have watched this video a hundred times because of that:

I thought it was this earlier studio performance which caused the uproar?

"South Australia" - The Pogues.
Another sunrise with my sad captains, with who I choose to lose my mind,
And if it's all we only pass this way but once, what a perfect waste of time.

Mincing Wi' Chairlie by Michael Marra.

"Trews made of tartan, tight to the skin
With feather of eagle my bonnet was trimm'd
And my hair tied with ribbon
Powdered and pinned
When I was mincing wi' Chairlie

Shiny our silver and sweeping our plaids
Silken our hose burned with green and with yellow
That bled with the red on the ill chosen ground
When I was mincing wi' Chairlie

Shiny our silver but cloudy our brains
Golden our stories through drink sodden haze
Where our fellow man died, we strode with pride
When I was mincing wi' Chairlie
Lord what am I that I should be spared
Till a' the drinks drunk dry"
I hear the people sing.

"Step Into Christmas" by Elton John.

Proper Christmas song that is. *Nods*

4Music, Viva, and other channels that show music videos please take note, just because a particular song was the UK #1 single at Christmas, it does not necessarily follow that it is - in fact - a Christmas song.

I always thought that Durham Town was Roger Whittarer's big hit so I was pleasantly surprised to read last night that this track makes him one of less than fifty recording artsists to have had a single which has sold over ten million units. Being the age I am I only remember him for being a very quick witted and intelligent chat show guest where he would recieve gentle ribbing about his whistling on some tracks. I knew he had a lenghty and successful career but had no idea about this success. What a gorgeous song too:

That gives me a reason to (re)post this classic. Please watch for the cameraperson perving over an audience member and, in the last thirty seconds or so, the big guy with the glasses who looks like he is the only person there who bought tickets so he would see the Wombles:

Good heavens. Here was me remembering the Word as being all L7 and that. Regarding Mr Whittaker, the mention of his name brings to mind:

a) The Mexican Whistler (!)
b) Ozzy Osbourne claiming to have once shat in his toilet and wiped his arse on his curtains.
All the world seems in tune on a Spring afternoon, when we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
