Looking for Calimero (rare old cartoon)

Postby KristoHam » Mon May 01, 2017 3:08 am

Hello, I'm new to this forum and I was wondering if anyone had heard of the cartoon "Calimero" about a little black chicken with an eggshell hat? His catchphrase was "It's an injustice, it is!" From what I know it aired on STV back in either the 1970s and/or 1980s five minutes before a program called "Crossroads" and it also may have aired as part of Glen Michael's Cartoon Cavalcade.
I managed to get a rare compilation of 13 Calimero cartoons from a rare laserdisc my friend ripped: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgTCmfLUYbA

But I know there are a lot more shorts (78 according to a French list of them), so I want to get more if possible.
There's this even rarer release on VHS and Betamax I've been looking for: http://www.pre-cert.co.uk/display.php?vId=UK06004

I made a translated list of all the shorts on the Calimero Wiki (some I replaced with their proper English titles that I knew but some are the direct translation from French): http://calimero.wikia.com/wiki/Calimero ... nal_shorts)

I wanted to ask, does anyone here have any Calimero cartoons recorded? Or any Cartoon Cavalcade that might have a Calimero cartoon as part of it? Any help will be appreciated.

I've also made a Lost Media Wiki page on the subject: http://lostmediawiki.com/Calimero_(part ... des/shorts)

you know this might be a long shot, but I'd head to car boot sales as you do get a lot of folk trying to dispose of old VCR

hope this helps

But see, the problem is, I live in the United States, so I was looking for people living in Scotland, where it aired, who might have recordings of it.

Calimero was my favourite show when I was a toddler, although I apparently just cried along with every episode.

The trouble you're going to have is that it aired (before Crossroads like you say) a few years before most folk had any means of making recordings of TV programmes.

As you'll know, it still has an official website, but sadly it's light on content. I wonder if the site owners are able to access any of the old stuff?

I believe I asked the official site owners before and never got a response. :( But I could always try again.

I also asked like 26 different YouTubers who posted recordings of Crossroads episodes from the '80s but got no response from them either...

Judging by the age I was when I watched Calimero, it was broadcast here in the 1970s rather than the 1980s. I think this is the main problem with finding clips.

Might be worth trying the website owner again. Good luck!

Yeah, stuff from the '70s would be harder to find. Someone somewhere probably has some recordings, though. I know it aired in Australia too but i don't know on what channel or what years it aired there (though it was probably in the '70s too, maybe the '80s but like I said I have no info, other than posts from Australians saying they remember seeing it...)

I did contact them again; still no response. :(

EDIT: This was the kind of post I was talking about: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1500575

I see there's also an official Calimero Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CalimeroOfficial/

If you haven't already, I guess this gives you another option for contacting the people behind the website? Plus you could have a go at commenting on the page itself, to see if you can attract the attention of anyone who might be able to help.

Good luck - I have very fond memories of Calimero!

The Facebook page was how I asked them. They also have a YouTube channel, from which I also got no answer: https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCXlb9xr1-9VeLva9O5I9qBw

Thanks! I wish the English versions weren't so rare...
