Oh yeh - remember that one only too well, in my case it was first year engineering mechanics; "remember at school you were taught that Force = mass x acceleration or stress = force/area ???? None of that simplified nonsense!!!", and university lecturers try and find an excuse to put calculus into every damn thing they can find. Thing is when you get back out into industry everyone just goes back to the simple formulae again, anything more complicated you look it up in a book!!!

Music class! Utterly pointless. The music teacher only made a halfhearted attempt to teach you the scales or read music or anything else. We never saw or heard a musical instrument the whole time I was there. You could tell she wasn't bothering because she knew you were leaving at the age of fifteen.

The class got to sing - - "Doh Ray Me Soh Fah La Te Doh" now and again. It was really quite inspiring that. ... Then, if I remember right, we got to sing that song that goes "Early one morning, just as the sun was rising ... I heard the maiden singing in the valley below." I'm almost certain the same old tattered and torn song-books had been used for thirty or forty years at least.

I took a side class of Engineering Science at the same time as Higher Physics .. the former was just a subset of the latter.

How odd - so did I. Those two, maths, English and Engineering Drawing were my 5 Highers.

Depends on your career choices, study Tech Drawing, become a draughtsman or design engineer and build useful things. Engineering Science is the practical side of Physics, which is very theoretical. I got a Higher in all three.

Physics is applied mathematics. In a similar vein, accountancy is creative mathematics and in turn, banking is creative accountancy...

A teacher told us, in the dim and distant past, that: All Biology is Chemistry, All Chemistry is Physics & all Physics is Maths.

Believe it or not we got taught Archery in 4th year. Always thought it was an odd choice for a bunch of folk from a Glasgow scheme. I'm sure some of the guys used in a practical way outside of school........
