I saw a boy of similar age yesterday,on his own, wearing a poppy. It was an unusual sight as you don't see that many hoodie clad, youngsters doing that. I thought it was a lovely gesture and assumed it was done in remembrance for someone in his family.
Without knowing the story or background of your neighbours son it would seem like a bit more than a gesture of Remembrance.
Maybe a way of ensuring that the child follows the families wishes for his future career?

I've seen several young lads in full army fatigues in the City centre over the past few days or so, with collecting tins for the Poppy Appeal. I'm guessing they are allied to some young group of army cadets or similar.

As long as the majority of the population need reminding once a year, Their sacrifice will not have been in vain.

I was always a grandad short. Every day is remembrance day under this roof.

I went to the Remembrance Day Service at the war memorial in Old Kilpatrick.
So moving and such a powerful message about the cruelty and futility of war.
I found myself overcome with emotion and crying in the street.
Embarrassed! Definitely not! I was not alone.
So many young lives lost.
Let us never forget each and every one of them.

Ive been following the story on FB of Harold Jellicoe Percival from when i first read it in Lytham St Annes Past to his funeral today, and its been amazing and moving how people from all over attended the gentlemans funeral today at 11am, it shows that people still care and we arent as fractured as we may look at times.

Yesterday i stood for the minutes silence and today (even though i was on duty), respected the solemness of the day.

For anyone who may not have seen the story - http://www.blackpoolgazette.co.uk/news/video-nephew-stunned-by-war-hero-send-off-1-6234965

I still get a bit wet eyed at Poppy Girl Megan being greeted in the Albert Hall by her dad. She thought was deployed in the Seychelles.
