"The Enigma Of Nic Jones - The Return Of Britain’s Lost Folk Hero.

In February 1982, guitarist and singer Nic Jones was a star of English folk music: his record, Penguin Eggs, was a bestseller - to this day many still believe it to be one of the best acoustic records ever produced.

But Nic’s life was about to change forever. Driving back from a gig in Glossop, Derbyshire, a near-fatal car accident ended his career.

Nic’s legacy has continued to inspire each generation of folk players since that fateful night in 1982 - singers like Eliza Carthy, Jim Moray, Anaïs Mitchell, Martin Simpson, Ashley Hutchings and Chris Wood testify to Nic’s influence on their music, even Bob Dylan covered Nic’s iconic track Canadee-i-o."

Excellent programme. Hadn't heard of the guy before, probably mainly known in the south of England. Very reaffirming- one of several 'light through the darkness' moments in a week that's had a slightly dark underlay

Cult of sorts, but excellent guitarist, singer and, seemingly, bloke.
Do buy Penguin Eggs, it's so good, and merits many listens- I'm still entranced by it, years later.

Excellent programme though I could have lived with more music and less chat.

Still, if Martin Carthy and Martin Simpson turn out to say nice things about him ..............

Good to hear Anachie Gordon sung as it should be sung and a timely reminder of the dangers of forced marriage.

Now we have Richard Thompson and pals - still on BBC 4.
