Royal visit to Dalbeattie, August 1965

Postby Dot » Sun Sep 15, 2013 3:38 pm

I found a Christmas card in a relatives home which has a colour photo on front that looks like it was
taken by an amateur. Inside the card there is a coat of arms and a greeting. Underneath there is an address which is 74 High Street, Dalbeattie. I looked this up on Google Street view half expecting it to be
some building of interest. All the buildings look pretty ordinary and didn't see anything of note.

Wondered why there was a Royal visit?
Think there was some sort of factory that made/assembled radiators but anyone got any information
which might explain this.

Could you post a pic of the card dot?

That was Stelrads. Prince Charles visited it in 1979.
There was a glove manufacturer on High Street, though not at number 74. I think Lybro, the other big industry in the town, occupied the premises before moving to New Road. I'm not sure when the move occurred, but I've been told that the Queen visited Dalbeattie in the mid-late 60's.

I don't have the photo as it was in a pile of letters and stuff I passed to another relation.
They seem to be as much in the dark as I am.

It did look as though the Queen is in photo but it is not clear exactly who everyone else is.
The figures are quite small and there is someone who I thought might be a local dignitary.

Thanks for the replies.
