Looks like a barely disguised flying saucer to me. Little green men are about 2mm tall and they'll be out in the grass talking to the ants, planning a coup...

Anyway. No, can't think of a connection.

I think that is highly likely, although I don't know for sure. This might become further research following on from the connection question. So not the primary connection I am looking for, but may be correct also.

There is an element of yes to your guess, but it doesn't stand as a complete "you've got it".

Hmmm... is it something to do with the legs? They seem to be quite ornate up until a point where you would think they had been extended up to support the roof. Did they come from another bandstand in Glasgow?
