Skin

Postby HollowHorn » Fri Mar 09, 2012 11:43 pm

They were talking about skin tonight on the 'Review Show' It was about a book called 'The Memory of Skin' or it might have been 'The Peculiar Absence of Skin' I think it may have been the first & I just imagined the second, I'm not sure.

Anyway, it's a book about sex offenders & the internet (sort of) One of the talking heads was going on about the 'Disembodiment' of the Electrical Interweb & it made me think. Is this why when we cyber folk meet up, we tend to make a point of shaking hands and / or kissing? We do tend to be a very tactile bunch. Are we reaffirming that we exit as three dimensional beings, encasing a soul within a skin, rather than within a space? I'm unsure, maybe we just like touching.

Though seriously you probably have a point, there is always hugging and hand shaking to welcome a new member into the HG pack... all just animals really. Just no sniffing of bums.

I think it's a sign of friendship more than anything else, possibly also because catch up's are (for me anyway) relatively infrequent - I've never read anything else into it.

I don't think it's anything more than the classical explanation that we're proving we aren't carrying a weapon in that hand.

Nope, no kissing for me either. I'm not averse to a snog either. Missed opportunity there methinks.

I think it's the sort of folk who warm to each other on this board and therefore are keen to meet up. Decent types, friendly.

t may be that for some of those who infest cyberspace it's the only physical contact they get with human beings.
