Government blocks Freedom of Information requests to protect the “goodwill” of workfare exploiters

Mandatory Work Activity and Work
Programmes in Norfolk

http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/m ... and_work_2

Extract of DWP response: (24 February 2012)

“In line with the Department’s transparency commitments, we have previously provided information about companies who participate in a number of our programmes that offer work experience, where we can collect this information without disproportionate cost. However, we are now invoking the exemption because it has become clear in recent weeks that there are a minority of people who appear to be seeking to undermine the goodwill of employers who are prepared to offer opportunities to unemployed people by attempting to harm those companies’ commercial interests.”

Are there no depths to which this government will not stoop?

I hear talk of a Coalition endorsed Ten Minute Rule Bill to re-introduce public executions on the grounds it'll reduce the prison population and people will pay to fill sports stadia to watch.
I hear the people sing.

Did you see the last two postings on the previous page? .. it's getting like something from a dystopian horror movie.

They're on the back foot, old bean. I've been quite heartened by so many companies pulling out of the scheme just this last week. It looks like a battle-of-the-bulge resistance from the government at the moment. I mean, when Philip Davies stands up and accuses Burger King of being "spineless", you know there's not much left in the barrel.

Saw HMV on the list the other day. Was most disappointed by that. I often go in thre and buy something whenI'm in town. Not any more. Of oourse, if the government stomp on these FOI requests, how am I to know when they pull out of the scheme? HMV might never get my business back...

I'd like them to be on the back foot, but I worry lest they're merely on the back foot while regaining balance for another nasty vicious kick. :(

Hell, anybody know if I could attend optimism lessons anywhere?

What annoys me is that those of us who are unfortunate to be unemployed at present when we eventually gain employment are actually subsidising the schemes we as the unemployed have been forced to participate in via the income tax paid to the goverment!

Grayling has stepped down.

"Ministers have dropped the threat of sanctions for unemployed youngsters on a controversial work experience scheme.

It follows a meeting with dozens of firms with concerns, after criticism it amounted to "unpaid forced labour"."

Climbdown by Grayling. Step down by Murdoch. How much better can today get?

I'm wondering if losing his DLA award last week had anything to do with PC Rathbone's suicide yesterday?

I'm willing to put money on it.

Shocking state of affairs.

PoLiCe

(Saw this on a short running comedy with John Gordon Sinclair years ago. Seemed so far fetched as to be laughable back then...)

Footage of Lansley being hounded by a doctor while on a visit to an NHS Hospital yesterday (Green Benches)

This is a leaked video of Lansley's visit to the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead London today. I had reported earlier on in the day that there had been an incident at the hospital but no national media outlet would run with the story. When the Minister for Health runs scared from medical professionals such as the doctor shown in the picture you know that his faith in Tory reforms must be limited indeed if he cannot have the courage of his convictions to stand and discuss the issues. It is a disgraceful example of modern day censorship that some obscure blog (mine) is bringing you this video and not a national media outlet.

I saw something on this last week, but can't for the life of me think where!

IIRC, the gist was that he was awarded both elements of DLA at high rate, but subsequently the DWP appealed it and it was reduced. Not sure how recently/close to his death, that reduction occurred though.
