The public's pressure that's encouraged some of the bigger names to back out of A4E projects.

I firmly believe the current situation is very different from previous government contract cock-ups in as much as this time it affects ordinary kids, peoples sons and daughters and it's the likes of Tesco and Argos who fear the public backlash (not that I imagine there'll ever be a serious boycott of Tesco - it's just the fear of the adverse publicity) + the potential for revolt at the upcoming Lib Dems conference that might force Cameron to rethink his loyalty to A4E.

It ain't just A4E who are at it.

"Unpaid jobseekers have been forced to clean private homes and offices for more than a month at a time under government employment schemes, despite mounting evidence that the controversial policy is reducing the overall availability of paid work by replacing temporary jobs and overtime for other staff."

I'm currently in the happy position of being a tax payer (in the PAYE sense, that is), and it annoys the hell out of me that I'm effectively subsidising various perfectly well-off firms through this.

Aside from that, I wonder how long it'll take for public opinion to swing against the recent fashion for humbling the poor and the jobless, as more people realise it may soon be them or their children on the receiving end? Having said that, I remember the 80s and early 90s well enough, and stand prepared to be disappointed.
All the world seems in tune on a Spring afternoon, when we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

When a so called Socialist the Lord Ffoulkes, referred to the constituents of Glasgow North East as the "Undeclass", Cleggy's not too bad.

Their spelling is almost as appalling as their smell.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Looks like the government are stomping on the FOI requests that have been used to tell us which organisations are exploiting workfare.

The only person who seems to overheard this alleged comment (and went on to mention it on Brian Taylor's blog in 2009) is someone who calls themself oldnat (you can draw your own conclusions re their political allegiances) and it has subsequently been quoted by cybernats elsewhere (on the basis of no corroborating evidence whatsoever).

The same oldnat goes on to say in the same response to the same blog "he (Foulkes) is right about the depths of despair and deprivation throughout that constituency."

According to Grayling all the damage to the Workfare programme has been done by half a dozen members of the Socialist Workers Party.

Can you imagine the effect a properly coordinated large scale campaign will have?

It's a while since I was last talking to the Lord Ffoulkes in person, but I find it hard to believe anybody would actually have to invent stuff about him. He obliges himself on a regular basis.
