nature of the beast.

in the east end of town the community closed down
they closed the supermarket the only one around
it didnt meet their target a million profits not enough
that the way the business works....***** tough

for a multi storey pensioner the light dont shine too bright
just hope this power card of mine will last right through the night
i can think of better times wee had not to long ago
with the market on a wednesday and the shops were on the go

two grocers a hairdressers the clydeholm cafe was the place
a bite to eat a chance to speak with another friendly face
but they chased away the little folk and pulled it to the ground
and built a supermarket the newest one in town

im up here on the fourteenth floor and in my hour of need
im serving out a sentence for other peoples greed
they changed the voting system we got a nice new politician
but since no ones ever seen him how can you make him listen

historically the west end is the place the rich folk chose
as the wind blew smoke and smog down to the east
and history will prove to us that some things never change
for that is just the nature of the beast.

crocodile blues

i tell you all this story
i know it sounds banal
but my mate bernie swears its true
that a crocs in oor canal

its been there now for forty years
but few have ever seen
this creature in the nauly
all teeth and swampy green

no photographic evidence
to back up bernies tale
next he will be telling us
aboot the dalmuir whale

i think he made the story up
that hes the instigator
for ive never seen a croc in there
but i seen an alligator.

kicking up a stink.

they have built a nice new unit in the golden jubilee
and the councillors are [censored] a hoop and full of fun and glee
for all the other towns around are filled with envy green
cos guess whos going to open it,her majesty the queen

but whit aboot oor problem one councillor did spat
oh aye thats right the dalmuir smell we never thought of that
how could we be so thoughtless how could we be so lax
that stench is for the locals who pay their council tax

then up stood the lord provost high heid yin of the burgh
we will simply have to use plan b as we dont have another
plan b whits that it must be good lord provost please do tell
we cannae have oor majesty breathing in that smell

we get every cooncil worker and pit them in a rush
gie them all emulsion and gie them all a brush
for the queens been here before ye know and really is acquainted
to the fact that all she ever smells has just been freshly painted.

Yes, gave me a good start to the day, too. I wonder if the one about the croc would go with a tune. You might be on to something then.

butterflies

when brian becomes bernadette and charles becomes claire
the ignorant and the bigots stop to stare
they never see the beauty of the flower in full bloom
and they never take the time to learn or care

like the colours on the rainbow or the petals on the breeze
some things take some time to fulfill
to reach their full potential and to break free from their chains
they must climb the very steepest hill

but atop the hill the view is clear
and they now know they have no fear
they can then become what theyve always wished to be
a butterfly no more cocooned on no deserted land marooned
alas only you and i can set them free
only you and i can set them free.

I'm deeply touched. It's rare to have such insight from an outsider.

The butterfly analogy is often used, but I've never seen anyone focus on the cocoon before.

Thank you. :)

Here's a Dark One for the Girls - like Banjo's parody - it gives my brother a mention.

One Girl - A Patient's Prayer
The Doc said stand up girl and dry up your tears
Your getting this treatment, you need have no fears
It’s tried and its tested, albeit by some
The best woman crusher since all time’s begun

Six months have gone by God I wish I was dead
The shocks that they give me have messed up my head
I can’t seem to function my muscles all sore
If I had the keys God I’d rush out that door

I’ve counted the days God I’ve counted the nights
I’ve counted the curtains I’ve counted the lights
I’ve counted the tiles God, laid flat on the deck
I’ve counted a dozen or more nervous wrecks

Largactil is given to me in great store
I can’t really focus my eyes anymore
It’s cruel what they’re doing, this world cannot see
The things they get up to with people like me

I’ve counted my teardrops I’ve counted my sighs
I’ve counted the patients I’ve counted their cries
I’ve counted the staff Lord, their worlds passing by
I’ve counted a million of their filthy lies

It’s time to go down now they’re coming for me
The equipments all ready and primed to a tee
I can’t take no more Lord please help me get by
The 400 volts that will pass through me nigh

I’ve counted the seconds displayed on the dial
I’ve counted the needles stacked next to the vials
I’ve counted the bottles making loud hissing noise
I’ve counted the doctors who are no more than boys

I’m standing aloft now and what do I see
The face on that table looks just like me
I turn to my left side and whom should I see
A young Joseph Doherty and he’s smiling at me

I’ll count no more teardrops I’ll count no more sighs
I’ll count no more patients I’ll count no more cries
I’ll count no more staff Lord their worlds passing by
I’ll count no more millions of their filthy lies

I’m shown the hundreds of shock broken souls
Killed by Psychiatrists searching for goals
It’s all about prestige and – look what I’ve done
If it weren’t for shock boys – she’d surely be gone
But he won’t count his failures only the ones that he saves
The others are buried in grass-covered graves

My life it has ended the jackals have won
But they wont admit to the crime that was done
No conscience no feelings no passion nor love
But one day they’ll answer in Gods heaven above

I’m counting the moonbeams I’m counting the stars……….

SONG FOR NIEVE

when you cry we will cry with you
when you laugh we will laugh out loud
you have made us so complete now
and you have made us all so proud

we will be following behind you
as you pass through all lifes stages
for your stories just beginning nieve
and youll turn over many pages

you are our very own rapunzel
cinderella and snow white
you are a hundred million fairytales
that no one could ever write

we will always be there for you
from our hearts youll never leave
your so beautiful and precious
our little darling nieve.
