From what era?

I spoke to my oldest son tonight about my misgivings re postal votes, I got this from him a few minutes ago.

"After our conversation earlier, I noticed a good friend had posted this on facebook":

"So anyway, I was at a large-ish sheltered housing complex, in Wishaw, with a care home today. Most residents have early onset Alzheimer's or dementia. ( It's a lovely place full of flowers & gardens) so I happened to mention tomorrows election, to which one lovely lady piped up. " don't worry, councillor ******* organised all our postal votes last month, he came around and got us to sign them last week, we told him who we wanted. He says he'll fill them out for us and post them." *jaw hit the floor!
So if you live in wishaw south/west ward, you're getting labour again, because by my reckoning from this one place, he's rigged 10% of the overall vote, for those that exercise their right! FFS! If I could prove it, I'd call the fuzz! (dirty bastard!)"

The above ought to reported to the Returning Officer and the Electoral Commission by someone who actually SAW the post in question.

It doesn't matter if the post has subsequently been removed - Facebook has a long memory.

Greens' plea over galleries

Published on 2 May 2012

ACTION needs to be taken to bring Glasgow's McLellan Galleries back into use, say the Green Party.

Candidates contesting tomorrow's city council election say the Sauchiehall Street centre has been closed to the public for years and is now in need of urgent repair.

Green councillor Nina Baker is demanding council arms' length company City Property explains what she describes as its failure to manage the gallery properly.

She said: "The Sauchiehall Street entrance to the Galleries is looking very shabby.

"I have been told that because Glasgow Life don't want it, the city shouldn't let it out to any competing gallery use either.

"I think that is a nonsense."

I understood City Property had let the McLellan Galleries to Glasgow School of Art (GSA) but that its recent fall into disuse was a result of GSA's attention being elsewhere, particularly regarding the rebuild of certain key buildings on their campus and that in the meantime it's being used for storage.

Baillie Baker is quoted as condemning City Property as having failed to manage the gallery properly when in fact what they did was secure a long term lease on advantageous terms with a reliable client who, for reasons of their own, don't wish to use the facility at the moment - yet are happy to continue to pay the rent.

If NIna has an alternative user in mind, perhaps they and GSA ought to get together and agree a mutually acceptable arrangement over the use of the building.

If not, ................................

Not voting today. About as much fun as picking the Baggies' 2nd XI as far as I can see.

I look forward to your posts regarding any council service
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.
