Right now I'm thinking gin is the solution to all the world's problems.

The lad I went to visit in hospital when he tried to kill himself?

The one who was sent home 'not a suicide risk' when he was still obviously fucked and struggling?

Killed himself last night.

I'd really been trying to help him - taking him for lunch, giving him some of my books on depression , trying to explain to him it's just the illness that makes things seem hopeless ... maybe I just didn't do enough. Or answer him fast enough when he messaged me last.

There was one from late last night but I was sleeping .. I can't help but think if I'd got it earlier he might still be here.

Truly truly awful.

It's not like that, Ds. Everyone will say don't blame yourself. It doesn't make it any the less true.

Very sorry to hear what's happened, Doorstop. I know you did everything you could to coax him 'round. Sometimes they can't be helped in spite of everyone's best endeavours. I gave my younger brother a bollocking one night for legging it across a six lane inner city ring road. I told him not to do it again or he'd get himself killed. He did it again and got himself killed. I did everything I could to warn him of the dangers, but in the end, he was hot-headed and accident-prone.

We've watched you be a proper mate when others ran away. You've done all that anyone could have done. Time you leant on our shoulders for a bit rather than carry the world on yours; it's tough losing a mate.

Hopefully, he's found some peace and quiet upstairs.

The "trained" folk sent him home.

Sorry to hear about what happened DS. Sounds like you are blameless with respect to this .

DS you are to be admired for all you done for him and you could not have done anymore. I am sorry for yet another tragic loss of a young life and according to statistics - certainly over here - a problem which is happening all too frequently.
My thoughts are with you. x

What can I say DS :( , it's an awful thing to happen, and affects so many people he would have known. Take care.

I can only follow the others by saying don't blame yourself. You did all you could to help when those who's job it was didn't. Chin up and keep on trucking

Sad news indeed DS.

It's a true-ism that those who will, will. Nothing you or anyone else says to a person in those depths of despair will have any effect, and while you may well feel reason for you to beat yourself up about not being able to help him enough - well, it just ain't so. You were a true friend to him in his hour of need and, hard as it may be to accept right now, there really isn't any more you could realistically have done.

It grieves me whenever I hear of someone taking their own life; I just pray my friends, in R/L AND here on the t'interweb, remain safe and sound. My thoughts are with you sir.
