In other news: I tore a callous off at the gym today .. tre painful now.



I've just spent the entire afternoon talking about the nature of depressive illness to a mate of mine who is in a bit of trouble with same.

I'm just about to head back out to spend evening visiting time at hospital with another friend who is just recovering from having a failed hip replacement removed because of the septicaemia it caused.

Still smiling though. I think I have discovered weapons grade happiness.

1. Ach it'll be ok in day or two once it starts to callous over again. Just be bit nippy working with it in the interim.

2. I think it did actually. Did the whole "being selfish is sometimes a good thing" speech. Seemed to hit a mark that hadn't been hit before.

3. Yep. Big stooshie in the NHS about this particular type at the moment. Metal to metal titanium ball and socket joints are disintegrating all over the shop. Over 700 in the UK at the moment. Tommy (my mate) has the worst case in the UK to date. Fragments of titanium made their way into his bloodstream causing massive infections leading to galloping septicaemia. He was in a coma (induced) for three weeks as his organs began to shut down and he barely pulled through. Massive class action claim in the offing at the moment led, unusually, by the surgeons who are incensed that this joint should have been on the market in the first place. The whole story was documented in a recent Dispatches, you might find it on 4OD.

Happy birthday for yesterday Bridie! Hope the birthday fairy was good to you.

We don't get many good bands playing Fraggle Rock & I only got tix for Travis coz my pal desperately wanted to go. Bloody hell, what a great gig- those guys really know what they're doing! Great atmosphere, really glad I went.
