Long Shot Question.

Postby Fireman » Mon Mar 25, 2013 6:00 pm

In the mid-1970's I owned an Austin 1800 S (Land Crab) that I loved dearly, however the fire brigade went out on strike and after nearly 10 weeks of no pay it decided to break down. I couldn't afford to repair it and had to let it go by exchanging it for a Mini Clubman Estate (the garage got the better part of the deal I can tell you!) as my wife & I lived outside Glasgow and I needed to get her to her work and home again every day.

On checking the RAC vehicle search data base for registration numbers (YGG 111 J) the car apparently still exists, but understandably it doesn't list the current owner or location - so my question is ........ does anybody here have a friend or even yourself that owns it?

Many thanks guys - you could make an old fireman's day if you can help locate it.

Hate to tell you this but it could be the car was scrapped but the registration plate was sold and moved to another car.

Thanks guys. :D

Stevieboy - I know what you mean, however the registration web site I checked shows the plate is still associated with the car.

Is there a landcrab owner's club? I'd be surprised if there isn't. You could try asking them.

I've just run a dozen vehicles through the search that I know to have been scrapped and all but one are still showing with a liability date about the time it went to the scrappie.

Thanks HelenD for that info.

As 'luck' would have it I've been checking the registration number allocation web sites for a number of years now and its always come back the same - Austin 1800 S, so perhaps it is sitting in a garage somewhere waiting to be rescued by someone with more nostalgic memories than sense, namely me! :D

Maybe all you The Wire fans knew this already, but I didn't. Talk about life imitating art, 'n' that....

I'm surprised the fashion police haven't lifted that reporter. Harrington jacket with a striped tie on a Tattersall shirt. He makes Fossil look sharp.

He used to look good.
