Baillieston school

Postby War Baby » Sun May 27, 2012 12:33 pm

Can anyone tell me about Baillieston school? I was away for a while in the late sixties and early seventies, and by the time I got back my old school was burnt down. Was it accidental or was it burnt down deliberately by vandals?
And if it was burnt down by vandals, did the police ever catch who did it?

Derelict from 1973 (replaced by Bannerman High) it was damaged by fire and demolished around 1974.

Thanks Icecube,
I was at that school from 1947 till 1958. Lots of memories of the place.

Ah!!! It's a small world, right enough. I also went to St Johns Church, just up the road. And I did a paper run from the Baillieston Post office in 1958. Delivered the papers to Crosshill and Swinton, while my pal David F was doing the other half of the run down the Baux. We had bikes.

I had an Aunt in South Scott Street. I didn't live in Baillieston. But I was nearby.

When you started at the infant school was the Rocking Horse still there, and did they give you slates with slate pencils? Na - I suppose that would be gone by that time.... Do you remember the janitor walking right round the school ringing that hand-bell just before nine in the morning? If I was walking to school and I heard it away in the distance, I would start running like mad.
