Wasn't sure whether to put this here or in the random question thread but as someone had already posted
a question recently I thought I would put it here.

Anybody out there got any good advice for someone with acne?
The person in question is son of a friend of mine.
My friend is upset for her son as his skin had been o.k. and then when he was about 19 or so things just
flared up and he is 20+ now. He lives away from home as he is at University in England.

Any tips for any facial products that people have tried and tested or is it a case of antibiotics?

He seems like a nice lad and leads a reasonably healthy lifestyle compared to a lot of students.

Get him on that tv programme where people show the nation stuff they can't possibly show their GP.

It'll soon be the only free health treatment in the UK.
I hear the people sing.

Dot,

There's nothing that really works. But facial scrubs and steam bowls make you feel better. It's no compensation but he'll grow out of it.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Hi Dot. Unfortunately acne can develop at any age, to anyone, it may stay or may go. At 28, I thought I'd have grown out of acne by now, but my GP said 'it just depends on the person'. I've had acne since I was about 16, and have tried everything there is to try.

Off the shelf products, the best I found was FreeDerm, when using it, you must do it as often as it tells you to without skipping an application.

Only one of the anti-biotics worked for me (and I can't remember the name), but the pill was red, and it became in-effective after a year or so.

For the past 3 years I have been using 'Duac Cream', and it is by far the best out of everything I have tried over the years. You keep it in the fridge, and apply it cold once at night before you go to bed. I still get the odd spot (maybe once every few weeks I'll get a couple of spots) but the rest of the time my skin is clear and you'd never know I had acne. If he gets this from his doctor, make sure he uses old bedding as it contains peroxide and it bleaches the pillows.

Hope that helps!

You don't miss a trick Doorstop. I don't intend to become clean shaven and sparkling for nothing....

Hmm Tiffany's is a serious present, depends how long term the relationship is really and obviously how bothered she is about bling. Personally if my OH spent any serious money on jewellery for me I'd be mortified, I realise I may be the exception to the rule there :-)

I'm happily unadorned. No need to be gilding the lily, now is there? ;)

My only concession to vanity is that I go to the same hairdresser as the creepy guy with the gas canister from No Country for Old Men.
