Almost any traditional chippy is better than the McDonalds at Anniesland, their stuff is utterly stinking cheap shite. Especially the burger buns, they always have a weird smell :?

I've avoided McDonalds like the plague for years (only desperation forces me into this one at Anniesland), so I don't know if this is typical of all their places.

The wee chippy across from me is not too bad 'The Ferry Fryer' Their sausage suppers are actually very nice. Also good for watching drunks etc after the pubs staggering in and out, usually spilling their purchases over the pavement moments after leaving....

Aye, the Ferry Fryer is pretty decent, much better than the pash served up by the "floating" chippy McGonagles

I think they were referring to the fish and not the spud. As far as
I know, if the fish is killed by just pulling it out the water and letting
it die, it's considered halal. Whereas crab and lobsters are considered
haram. Halal fish and chip shops exist in the midlands, well they did
the last time I was there.

I have just read this entire thread and it has made me hungry. There is an excellent chippy in Burnside but I can't recall the name right now.

The worst chippy I've ever been to is in Arrochar (I know we're talking Glasgow but I need to try and deal with emotional distress)). I asked for a sausage supper and instead of two large delicious hot sausages wrapped in a nice crispy batter i got one small, cheap Tesco super-super-saver sliced halfway through and fried to a crisp. No batter or anything. The chips were full of black bits and the whole lot tasted like it had been fried in Crude Oil. Then they had the cheek to charge me "tourist" prices.

Unfortunately it was all wrapped up, paid for, and I was half-way to Loch Lomond by the time I opened them up expecting that delicious vinegary waft, and instead got something resembling a fractional distillation tower in Grangemouth. Truly awful! I still can't figure out how they can get something so simple, so wrong.

However, the wee roll'n'sausage van at the garage in Arrochar is pure minted so it is!

Is this gonna be a standup fight, sir, or another bughunt?

There was another chippie in Barrowfield in Stamford Street at the railway arches (now gone like most of Camlachie). Can't recollect if it had bars to protect staff. It was next door to ex boxer Billy Rafferty's scrap yard, who had the smashing sign above the door 'Ex scrapper still scrapping'

No bad eh
