Average/Bad Restaurants

To offset the Good Restaurants Thread here is the Average/Bad Restaurants thread.

Starting off with

The Boswell Country Club
27 Mansion House Road, Langside, Glasgow
Tel: +44 (0) 141 632 9812 Fax: +44 (0) 141 636 9325

Should've seen it coming!, booked a table, no confirmation so had to phone. Got there and only one other occupied table - worrying for 7:30 on a Friday I thought.

Waiter brought out the wine, didnt open it or pour (grr)
My first choice of main (mussels) although on menu "has been lying for a while so chef wouldnt recommend it" eek!

So we went for Chicken Liver pate to share as a starter
Mixed Tempura and Haddock and Prawn Rissotto for mains

Well..... Chicken liver pate was so strong Im sure you could bait bears with it! I think they mixed in some sort of smelly cheese to make it go further. I like my cheeses - the smellier the better, but in chicken liver pate hmm. It was what I imagine licking the inside of someones toes after they have been wearing trainers all day on a hot day - not pleasant.

Mixed tempura - appeared nice although i did notice the prawns were actually bought in wrapped in filo pastry!

Haddock and Prawn Rissotto - a large portion and very creamy, quite nice but very rich and not much haddock and prawn

We finished with cheesecake - which disappointed the Cheesecake Monster who is a bit of a cheesecake expert. Very watery, not very pleasant.

For a "Country Club" i expected more, it did appear to be general "bar meal territory and even that is generous.

Bar doors were open so you got the bar noise which didnt help the ambience of the restaurant.

Suffice it to say, we wont be back!

Sounds like a scene from Fawlty Towers. Has the chef ever had a bad mussel? I have and it wasn't fun.

Sounds like a scene from Tom Waits' "Nighthawks at the Diner"
[paraphrase] "i ordered a dangerous veal cutlet . . . it walked done the bar and beat up my coffee, but the coffee was to weak to defend itself"

Frankie and Bennys - went there on night when La Fiorentina was full. Mostly frozen lasagne and chips. The thin garlic bread was good but that was the only thing.
It's business , not personal.

went to weatherspoons on argyle street. I know its not exactly a fancy place of anything but you do expect standards. The presentation of my chilli was disgusting. Look like they had spilt some and just wiped it with their fingers. Tasted nice though but portion was way too small.

Washed down with a nice pint wasnt a total loss :-)

Franky & Benny's - Rubbish... all of them, as it's all pre-packaged, greasy rubbish.
TGI Friday's - As rubbish as F&B's.
Thai Fountain - Food's not bad, but it's deffo over-priced & the staff are constantly topping up your drinks and trying to usher you through your courses and out the door!
Anywhere part of the G1-Group - Generally all of the gaffs part of this groups are rubbish.

Damn. Just spoiled it at the end there. I've been waiting for the opportunity to use my favourite food-related quote for ages.

Careful, they put a hideous lawyer woman onto me last month for apparently defaming them, even though I knew I was in the right all along.... (although it wasn't their food I was criticising!)

G1 put a lawyer on you for critising them? Jesus!

Okay, see previous post re Bistro Julienne. Piss poor and quite dear.
Cafe Francais is appalling.
Rogano is overrated and over priced.
