What used to be the 'Taverna' now seems to be 'Mulberry St.' (for some reason).

Anyone been in?

The Taverna used to be good many years ago, but had certainly gone downhill in the past few years... I'm hoping the slightly oddly named "rebirth" will be better.

Didn't the pub halfway between Langside and Shawlands used to be called the Mulberry Hotel? I haven't been there in ages so it might still be called that. I remember a barman getting stabbed to death in it in the early 90's.

The Taverna was a great place to hang out at one point but I haven't been near it in a long time.

Hmm... I don't remember anything "mulberry" in that area.

And yeah - the Taverna used to be really good. Afaik it was owned by a guy from Cyprus who then left to go back home and left in the hands of his two sons. Thus started the decline.

Yes it is all coming back to me now. I spent a lot of my youth drinking in the Mulberry on a Fri/Sat night. I remember it fondly as a good pub.

The Mulberry Hotel was in camphill avenue and changed its name after a stabbing incident. Is it called Ivory these days.

The Taverna's lease was offered some time ago and maybe someone has picked it up. The bar staff were appalling , and would leave tables with empty beer glasses, crisp bags till their hourly sweep.

it had an older crowd who were not fans of the swisher shawlands establishments.

The bloke who opened the Taverna was one of the Greek-Cypriot diaspora who worked in the Stakis Glasgow Casinos. I think he worked in the Princes Casino (or it's predecessor in Buchanan Street) in the Seventies.

When it opened, it attracted a young hip crowd, not least because of the music it played, which was pretty John Peel-ish. Perhaps the older crowd in more recent times were just faithful customers?

It can't be any worse than it has been recently !!

I had a meal in there a couple of weeks ago. It seemed to me to be good pub quality grub with large portions but quite pricey all the same.

They had reverted to the seperate eatery & bar set up (the eatery being in what was the non-smoking section).

The crowd that go there are the same people that have been going there for years - college lecturers, teachers, members of RSO & other assorted "professionals" who seem to specialise in talking loudly about themselves. Everytime I go in it's the same old faces - no doubt they're thinking the same about me!

Overall I'll stick to the Queens park Cafe if I just want a pint.

Was in there last night, very nice if a bit like the southside version of oran mor (40 something divorcees anyone!)

Tight on seating but cosy and no neds!

Go in on occasion of a sunday evening.

never have i been in a pub with a higher density of assholes - it is great!

too many seats for the floor area, too many people as mentioned who are totally up their own arses.

bar staff are alright - one cannae pour a pint to save her life, the other one is first class.

The smokers at the door need to learn to fuck off when others are trying to push their way out or in.

A very strange place all in, obviously alot of regulars. its great to go in and people watch! And the prices are good too - no increase after the changeover

i dont like mulberry street at all. the taverna wasnt up to much but it feels like youre in a braserrie now. yuck. i like pubs where you can spit on the floor, almost. i only ever go the qpc when the clachies are playing in the back.

well thankfully yourbarred there are lots of spit n sawdust pubs further down the road for you.

Was the Hotel named the Mulberry as a corruption of nearby MillBrae?
