Any ideas?

I think I might have posted this on another thread (sorry Sharon, feel free to delete), but The Market Bar on the Gallowgate side of the Meat Market. Opened at six. Two rolls n'sausage and twelve pints of lager please.

There was also the Market Hotel, just round the corner at the arched gateway (which I think might still be there - haven't been down the Gallowgate for a while). It was deeply odd - a clapboard room built inside what was actually a much larger room. Always wondered what was on the other side of the partitions, but the staff were much to scary to ask.

Sound magic!

Was still there in the mid to late eighties, certainly.

It was also heated by a single one of those metal grill gas heaters where the flames project for a foot or two in front of the mesh when they're turned up full, up in one corner (so at least there is a legitimate reason if it eventually 'went on fire'). If you ever saw anyone with singed hair in the area, you could have a reasonable guess where they'd been.

Is that an artist's impression or a real photo, Dex? Looks deeply odd, particularly the bit behind the tree, where it looks as if someone has just sliced the wall off half-way up the windows.

Yes, there's a Sammy Dows on Nithsdale Road, just at the junction with Nithsdale St. and Nithsdale Drive.
