I've only been in once but Miller on tap is good enough for me and the atmosphere was good. It was very busy though so it's not the sort of place I've been looking for lately.

I drink in there on occasion.
Had to stop for a while after a friend went bunny boiler on one of the bouncers, embarrasing.

I used to work in the Solid Rock in town about 5-6 years ago. It is a filthy pub and the music is far to loud.

The kitchens were horrid, the toilets filthy and the womens toilets downstairs were always overflowwing and the owner refused to get someone in to clean the drains out.

They never hoover either so the carpet is filthy with years of fag ends. Only ever got a light sweep. Carpets are such a bad idea in a boozer.

Overall, a lovely picture has been painted of the Solid! ::):

It's no bad - good if you're in with a bunch of mates havin a pint, so you don't notice how manky the place can get. It's one of my regulars, but I'm only in a few times a month.

Don't think the Vampyre society meet there any more, since downstairs was opened more frequently. Probably should know, as I was at their Halloween party.... Oh well.

Aye I like a couple in the Squalid every now and again. Usually go down the stairs at the weekends for the classic rock stuff. I like Rufus T Firefly too further up Hope St, not as filthy therefore lacking in the character of the original. Good wee place though.

Its also the venue for the Scottish Rope Workshop where a group of BDSMers take over the basement on a Sunday afternoon and get lessons on how to tie each other up.

I did but hate what they've done with the place now. Rufus T's is even worse, too shiny! I mostly drink in The Crow now which is near Rufus. It's so cosy and intimate with a really nice vibe.

My mate (who thought he looked like David Coverdale) drank in there every night for a Month as a kind of metabolic challenge. At the end he looked more like a fat bloater and his liver was the size of a labrador.

I like the Crow too. Murder trying to get a seat at weekends though. :(

Probably looked even more like David Coverdale than he did before.
