Japanese wise, Ichiban is better than Wagamama, I find, but Ichiban doesn't do desert.

I am learning to speak Japanese just now but sadly there's a lack of Japanese speaking staff in both places to practice with!

I asked for a Saki on Friday and I got given a sort of jug which held enough for 3 or 4 Sakis. Is this normal? It probably is.

That's usual - it's traditional in Japan to share sake - you should always pour it for your companions and they should pour for you.
