Find a g1 group pub / club, then dine/drink/dance the night away.

Bon Accord, 153 North Street - for real ale
Café Source, St Andrew's in the Square - for a good bowl of Cullen Skink (smoked haddock & potato soup)
13th Note, King St - a good place to see local (but often terrible) bands
Mono, Kings Court - which has a record store that specialises in more obscure titles
State Bar, 148 Holland Street - for whisky and more whisky
Star Bar, 537-539 Eglinton St/675 Pollokshaws Rd - for the cheapest 3 course lunch in Glasgow at £2.50
Pivo Pivo*, 15-17 Waterloo St - for beers from around the world and 2 for 1 pizzas

*or any of the Republic Bier Halle pubs dotted around the city

Avoid the Goose On Union Street (main street for buses heading South and East)

What sort of music do you like ccasey3? There are rock pubs and folk pubs etc

When I was making my contribution I felt everything was attached to Alcohol.

Could anyone recommend Tchai Nova or Beanscene or any other cafe with music.

I could suggest The University cafe for an interesting and cheap evening meal but there's no music.

Whilst i do accept most Americans do get Irony unless you have local knowledge they may not twig that nobody on here in their right mind would recommend a G1 establishment. And before we go off topic in our usual style, anyone interested in pursuing an argument on this should open a new topic.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

If ccasey3 likes 100 different varieties of tea & 2 or 3 different flavours of hippy, then i'd say yes

to answer ccasey3's question of avoiding anywhere too shady i would say you probably won't be bottled in a G1 establishment but it won't be much fun either...

As said before, jump onto an 89/90 First Bus, and that does a big circle of Glasgows "hidden from the tourist bus" regions, plus the 89/90 will drop you off where you got on .. hence the circle part. Or even go on the Underground system, that also runs in a circle, but a lot less to see out the windows ::):

Here's a rough map of the 89/90 bus route, and many others:

Your trip may also coincide with the "Glasgow's Coming Down" theme that GHA have in the city .. you may be lucky to see one of Glasgow's tower blocks being blown up.

Whatever the case, i hope you and your brother have a great, and safe time in Glasgow. :D

Now that would be more to my liking of an 'overground' version of a subcrawl.
