Eight Points of Glasgow

I propose a task to identify and photograph the extreme limits of the Glasgow city council boundary. I was thinking of the N. S. E. W. and N.E. S.E. S.W.and N.W.

Any interest?

No walk it - just identify the 8 points by map etc. and then go take a pic of each one.

It's called beating the bounds where I'm from and it took me three days to go 'round the parish of 41.7 square km. There will be swimming involved, I fear.

Walking the Glasgow Boundary would be interesting. Something that would make a good sponsored walk for charity. I wonder how how far it is and how long it would take?

I've been looking at the Ordnance Survey map and part of the boundary goes along the Clyde between Uddingston and Cambuslang. I walked along there last year and the footpath was choked with weeds. It became impenetrable after a while. The rest of that stretch goes to Dalmarnock along the Clyde Walkway and that's easy enough.

It looks like a considerable challenge. I wouldn't mind having a go when the wheels are back on.

Sounds like it'd be the Glasgow Common Riding. Without horses.

I fear it'd have to be an approximate route - unless I'm much mistaken, some of the boundary follows the M73 (though that might make it quite lively).

Indeed it does. Game of "Chicken", anyone? :D

Also, it crosses the main railway line at Polmadie. Then there's the Clyde and White Cart.

How would we go about this circumnavigation? Start at a northerly point and work our way clockwise, or start at an easterly point and work anti-clockwise?

Think i'd rather spend the weekend smashing the ends of my toes with a plank of wood.

Sorry Icecube, this really wouldn't be my thing at all. We'll be photographing the city's best Prostitution spots next.

Besides... i think you'd be looking at a good £40.oo for petrol. :D

would be interesting to do. Did we not have a thread with City of Glasgow signs somewhere?

At least you've grabbed the essence of the idea KM but no it couldn't possibly cost £40 in petrol as the idea would be that members living near identified locations could go out and take the pictures, a five or 10 minute walk for some.
Eight locations - not the entire boundary.

I quite like arbitrary things like boundary lines, so the notion of walking it appeals to me!!! Having no good reason, can be a good reason to me :)

Do it properly...

...and we can finish the job with the petrol.

Better still, save the toes for the walking.

So, I'm nearest the South-East point. Where would this be? Dalmarnock Bridge? I've been across there often enough but the one time I walked there, I didn't take a photo of it.

There's a substation 'round the corner:

The city boundary follows the middle of the Clyde out to Cambuslang according to the OS Map.

There's a weir to the north of Westburn that could lay claim to being the south-easterly point:

What about the heron, though? This sculpture is by the main road that crosses the Clyde (A763, Clydeford Road >>)
