According to http://www.clanmacmillan.org/genealogy/Ministers the reverend was in his post from 1876-1916 and died in 1920. There's a photo of him available to buy from http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk I couldn't be bothered to enter my details to find out how much they wanted for a copy :D

:)

Same here. I don't mind investigating so long as it's free. My giro doesn't stretch to detective work.

Never even occurred to me that some of the pics might have been taken in the Hydro.

Sorry to hear the Minister kicked the bucket in 1920. Once I've got more info on the rest of the family, I'm going to see if I can find out what happened to Robert Jnr during the war. Wondering if he saw military service.

The minister's obituary may have been in The Herald or the church magazine. Worth a look. The Scotsman for 2 July 1920 had this:

McMillan - At 18 Leslie Road, Pollokshields, Glasgow on 1st current, the Rev Robert McMillan, in his 74th year, lately minister of Strathbungo Parish Church, and for over 40 years incumbent of the same. Funeral private (no flowers).

What an utterly compelling thread. This has made my day.

I will move this to projects for the time being as it is too hidden in photo sharing.

Call me cyincal, but i'm not so sure this is the right house either. It looks very, very like it but i feel the lie of the land is all wrong. The house sits on quite a steep hill and some of the family photos suggest the same.

Were houses like this built "off the peg" in those days? If so there could be loads of this design throughout Glasgow.

I have tracked down the living family and will direct them to you and this forum I am sure they will be very pleased that you went to the trouble to do something with the negatives

Definitely looks like the correct house to me.

Larger version here

The similarities between this house and the old photo are too striking for this not to be the house.

The only thing missing is the iron fence on top of the wall, but then that would almost certainly have been removed to assist the war effort.

I don't think there's genuine doubt that that's the house, Steve.

If you can ask the living family to identify themselves, I'm quite happy to say to the current occupants (if no-one else has already) : it's not that far from me.
