on a recent visit i was disappointed with the state of the place. i understand the park used to be private until the council took over in the early 90's. a forgotten and hidden gem the council have yet again neglected.

anyways i was wondering if anybody has anything on its history or any old photos? this is what i know so far....

the old castle looking building with the tall chimney was used as a stable at some point, the private hospital was at one point a college of some sort and i know the caves are man made. anybody else got any info or can correct me on any of this?

(i would upload a photo but im not sure how to :) (newish member) :( :D

i was there last summer and was shocked at the state of the pond! the algy and rubbish in it was so thick that my friends little daughters fishing net snapped when she dragged it through to catch tatpoles! not that there was any tatpoles as nothing could possibly live in the pond!

i remember it used to be lovely with big lilly pads in the middle and lots of tatpoles round the edges! so i wrote to glasgow city council about it and they said they would sort it - clearly they havent! :x

A "Friends of Rosshall Park" has been set up ao hopefully this will be the start of the upgrading of the park.

Hi, I live local to the gardens and as Alex said a friends of Rosshall group has been set up. It's still very much in it's infancy but I'm sure all involved will be doing their best to improve the situation.
I've got a history of Rosshall booklet which I'll try to scan and upload soon.

The rockery has been restored. Take a look at http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/ ... ardens.htm

The city council have let this park fall into disrepair.

It used to be a park visited by the local community, not anymore.
I remember visiting the park in the 80's and early 90's and it was great. Always busy.

I mean it is not like the council to maintain historical buildings or areas of great importance.
