Interesting and informative article in the Gruniad today. It's good at placing the building in a historical context, and argues that its survival is still far from assured:

Yes, it was. I had always wondered why it was abandoned so quickly.

Personally, I would prefer it were it to be preserved as it is now (if that's possible) rather than restored to anything resembling its original condition. Both more beautiful to look at and a more accurate social document.
