Hi, I have a couple of questions about St. Peter's -

1) is it possible to access the convent block at the far end of the site? I've been to st p a couple of times but never ventured in there. Does anyone have photos from that area?

2) there are some photos of when it first opened, and a lot from the past ten years, but does anyone have/know of photos from the time in between, i.e. 80s and 90s? Would be interesting to see!

Looked into it myself but the enterance is at 1st floor level and there is a none to safe floor to walk on I would advise against it...

I've been on the first floor - if you go through the back, there's a steep slope right behind the building, paved with cobbles - I think I leaned a plank up against it from there and clambered up. There's really nothing to see up there though - if I can find any pics, I'll post them later.

Every time someone takes a step towards the seminary its demise is hastened. You're as much a vandal as the Catholic Church which just let it go and the paint sprayers or Graffiti Artists as they are known to their social worker. Just let it die in peace.
"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Kirsty, is this the block you mean?

Image

As has already been said, there didn't seem to be much there, and it didnt seem very accessible so I didn't explore it too much.

I find the comments about being able to sue if you hurt yourself bizarre and quite funny. To me that like saying if I was to stab myself with a knife, I could then sue the manufacturer for making it too sharp and not protecting me from it?
Health and Safety legislation's gone mad. Just use a bit of common sense. Wear suitable clothing and watch your step.

... in fact forget that, I wouldnt want to be seen to encourage further vandalism

Thanks everyone, yes that is the bit I mean. I wont be exploring it but was curious as to what it looked like inside.

I agree that suing has gone crazy, people should know what they're getting into!

How about it's later use in the 80s, anyone know of any photos from then?

If there are any early deterioration type photos, I'd love to see them too.

As for the other stuff, frankly if anybody is dumb enough go into a structure like that without realising how risky it is then, should the worst happen, the rest of us are probably safer without them being around, driving cars and voting and so on; and I can't see how turning up and taking a photo of this or any wreck does it any harm, unless photography not only steals people's souls but also compromises buildings' structural integrity.

Sad news.

I attended a discussion on St. Peter's Seminary hosted by NVA at the Edinburgh Book Festival last year, and was thrilled when both Isi and Andy MacMillan turned up and contributed. It was heartening that they were both fully up to date and aware of the level of interest in St. Peter's.

Recently appeared on Glasgow University's homepage - Reinhabiting the Ruins project plans for 'reinhabiting' the St Peter's site.

According to >this< St Peter's is getting 500 grand, though the story doesn't make quite clear for what. The last project above this post? Who knows.
