It's roughly where there is a PC gaming place and a fancy dress hire shop now, just down from the RAC place.

Thanks again, GK.

Jesus, what a travesty. Suppose I shouldn't really be surprised though - our elected officials have always wanted to dispose of the old to usher in the new. C*nts.

Just came across this excellent site,
http://www.anderston.ukpals.com/home.htm
Which I can heartily recommend.
It states the the building was the former St. Peter's Church, and it remained open at No.'s68-72 oswald Sreet till the late 1950's. the ground floor held an aquarium and the rest of the beasties were up the stairs.
By the looks of the pics on the site, there were two cghurch's right close together, and both had the double stairs at the front.

Not too sure about that one Flash, that would put the Zoo on Hope Street not Oswald Street though I can see it from your point of view,
The building that says Expert Tailoring on it looks like the RAC shop building but it could be the building that stood in place of the BT offices next to Denholm's pub on Hope Street.

Can anyone confirm?

I thought that too at first but if you look closely at the corner of the Zoo sign nearest the tram you can just see the tower on Central Station at the corner of Hope Street and Gordon Street.

Kenny`s ariel view gave it away for me, with the Central Stations glass roofs on the r/h/s of the piccy.

Early 1960's aerial view. The curved building at the start of Hope Street, can be seen on the bottom left corner.

I remember my father taking me to the zoo in Carlton place ,there was quite a few animals there but the one i remember most was an old lion.in they days it was like an adventure seeing animals that you only read about or were told about in stories, looking back it must have been terrible for the animals especially the lion ,as after all the zoo/menagerie was only inside like a big house, great times though.
