I’ll post these in instalments as it’s a bit much to do in one go!

Part 1 Union Street

Looking in from the gates at Union Street
There’s a door on the left about 10m in that provides a route below the concourse to Hope Street (I’ll come back to this in Part 2)

the bottom of the previous pic viewing north to Gordon Street

There's a door at the bottom left of the first pic that provides access to the area within the station that runs parallel with Union Street and we end up here
Image

there's quite a few dingy archways along the route
Image

an old boiler room perhaps?
Image

behind the RM Hotel
Image

this area is directly below the footway on Union Street and stops around 5m before the RM Hotel

heading south towards Argyle Street

Great pictures, ive had the opportunity myself to be able to walk that route as i used to work in one of the shops in central station and had regular access to that area, though was never able to take a camera. Here's a wee link to a video about some of that part of the station. dunno if you have seen the video but heres the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1ZNgQUk ... C7&index=2

Fascinating stuff!

But the story of the murder sounds like a bit of an urban myth to me.......

There were no hangings at Barlinnie until 1946. Prior to this executions took place at Duke St. and the last one there was in 1928 [James McKay]. If it had actually occurred this is the kind of dramatic middle-class murder that would almost certainly have become much more widely known.

Great story though and if it really is true I would love to know more.

The Scotsman Digital Archive knows nothing of a murder in Cemtral Station around that time.

And the list of hanged folks, as Viceroy notes, is missing the event: http://www.richard.clark32.btinternet.co.uk/scottish.html

Are we being led up a garden path? Surely a Network Rail employee would not deceive us? :(

I think that the guy just passes on urban myths, not intentionaly I'm sure. Did someone not question the corpses from France story recently?

I was a bit sceptical about the murder thing but from being down in that part, it is creepy as fcuk but maybe thats just me but i do think that something nasty did go on there some years ago.

Part 2 - route from Union Street to Hope Street

Starting point here is the other side of the door described in the 1st picture posted in this thread

viewing west to Hope Street

looking back along the route

next section heading west

looking back along the route

we now take a sharp left turn and are viewing south to Argyle Street
Image

still heading south

There’s a staircase at the right hand side just behind where this picture is taken that leads to the sub basement level. I’ll come back to this in Part 3. To the left is quite a large area that is used for catering.

another sharp left turn, heading east

to left is another access to the catering section

There's been a few threads on Central station here but i've never seen pics of the passage under the platforms, the one that links from the stairs down from the platforms. Does anyone have photos of this?

Due to the lack of response to this post & the rear RM Hotel and Grant Arms posts I’ll assume it has now put all Grahamston theorists to bed :|

Good seeing those pix - I used to take this route daily 30 years ago, AFTER the stairwells on the platforms were removed. This meant the corridor (for public use, as an interconnection to Hope Street) was not needed and closed off. What I do remember from the walk-though's then, were the boilers and constant hissing steam right up to the right turn to enter the old Inter City Parcels depot at Hope Street.

Back in the 1960's, before the conversion to a 'Superloo' the Gents toilets ran under the main concourse to an exit under the 'Destination Boards' building. This allowed gents to enter from one door, and exit the other. The additional space was taken up with (aa I recall) baths and a barbers shop, all this disappeared when the Superloo opened, but it does not take up the same amount of space, OR cross under the concourse, so there must be something still down there.
